The Best Of Eternal Flame - A Tribute To Teresa Tang

Fygi, the Dutch Ms once in a all-girl pop trio Centrefold, returns to haunt us with Eternal
Flame culls from previous albums her interpretations of evergreen standards.
She puts her smooth lower register to good use on tracks like Disse Alguem (All of Me),
For Me, Formidable, and Baby Come to Me. However, in faster tracks like the cha-cha-ish
Quizas, Quizas, Quizas (done excellently by Nat King Cole, and in English by Doris Day and
rockers Cake), she struggles with the tempo.
Her slow, sensual rendition of Autumn Leaves pales to Paula Cole's (yes, the cowboy
chick) passionate and spontaneous version in the OST of Midnight in the Garden of Good
& Evil. Fygi sounds a tad like Ella Fitzgerald, except for an annoying penchant for stressing
her phrases over-dramatically.
Unfortunately, this easy listening compilation is book-ended by covers of two Teresa Teng
songs. Fygi's enunciation of Chinese is really terrible ^_^, and the Spanish guitar treatment
does nothing for Teng's effortless originals.
This one's for fans and Broadway addicts (note the bonus VCD of cheesy MTVs) - a
romantic mood-enhancer.
